Telephone fraud is happening in the Northumbria area. Fraudsters pretending to be police officers have targeted people over the phone to con them out of their life savings. Someone calls pretending to be a police officer to say their bank account is at risk of being hacked and their money stolen. They are told to contact their bank, withdraw all their money and that a ‘police officer’ will come and collect it and take statements. Over the past few months there have been over 35 telephone fraud incidents across the force area with two further attempts reported yesterday. Please pass this information to relevant persons and relatives, friends and carers.
