Ashington Male Voice Choir is celebrating its centenary with a packed programme of events.
A year of celebration in song is about to start for the choir. Formed in 1916, the choir is embarking on a programme of concerts celebrating its centenary, an achievement which is a credit to the many members, musical directors and accompanists over the years. Ashington and district can be proud.
The first concert of the year is on Saturday 13th February, at the Stakeford & Bomarsund Social Welfare Centre at 7-00pm. Tickets available at the centre for £6.
On Tuesday 23rd February there is a concert at Ellington Welfare, hosted by the local Darby & Joan Club 7-00pm.
Saturday 9th April we will join other singers at The Sage, Gateshead in a ‘Choral Spectacular’ as part of the National Association of Choirs Annual Conference.
The Centenary Celebration Concert is on 14th May at the Josephine Butler complex of the Northumberland Church of England Academy. Ashington Male Vioce Choir has been offered considerable support for its own ‘Spectacular’ and is extremely appreciative of this help in making the celebration an event to be remembered.
Choral singing is becoming popular again now and new members are welcome to join the Ashington men. Just interest and enthusiasm are needed, no requirement to read music or have auditions. The choir’s website, www.ashingtonmalevoicechoir.org will give all the information needed. Or else call into Stakeford & Bomarsund Welfare on a Thursday evening. Give it a try and it may surprise you!
