Consumer advice and legal help for older people  (Extract from the Golden Guide Northumberland, 2019)

Find personal help locally, and through national helplines. Useful information includes the Telephone Preference Service and the Mail Preference Service to help stop nuisance calls and junk mail at home. Specialist law services for older or disabled people are shown too.

Free initial legal consultation. If you wish to proceed, they explain the costs and carry out the work by post and telephone. Includes Wills and Power of Attorney documents.

Free legal advice if you are eligible for Legal Aid. If not they will signpost you to someone who can help. They cover issues concerned with debt, housing, family problems, education and discrimination.

Free legal advice for disabled and deaf people on community care issues, employment and discrimination law. They have a specialist MS officer.

Consumer advice TV programme publishes its consumer reports and information on the website. Includes finance, insurance, energy bills, motoring, rogue traders, scams etc.
